Rink Booking Post 17th May

At the last Management Committee meeting, held on Wednesday the 12th May, Ian Holmes and Malcolm Linn were tasked with finding the best way forward on the booking system under Covid-19.

It was felt that a system of booking rinks in the clubhouse and/or on the website, was not going to work with all members.

Generally members meet up at the Clubhouse and arrange and book the games while they are there.

Names written down to book rinks are often not sufficient for keeping a record as, for various reasons, a member may not turn up on the day.

A daily Covid-19 registered folder has been created, which has been placed on a table just inside the Clubhouse  entrance from the veranda/green.

All members should fill in the register every day they attend at the Club , as well as all visitors/spectators.

Organised games such as Monday Triples that already record all members present, will do not have to rewrite names into the folder but MUST keep a record of all those that have attended for the following three weeks.

For organised league games the score cards MUST be kept as the record of who has played for three weeks.  All accompanying visitors/spectators MUST register attendance.

From 17th May the reservation of rinks will be via the booking sheets, as in former years.

Members and Visitors are reminded that until the 21st June, at the earliest, a mask should be worn in the Clubhouse.

Sanitise hands before entering the Clubhouse and writing in book or register.

Bring your own pen or pencil to write in names when booking rinks and registering  attendance. This will save constant sanitising of a pen or pencil
It is hoped everyone accepts this as the way forward. However, if problems are experienced or a better method can be put forward the Management Committee are prepared to adapt.

OPEN DAY Sat 29th May

Hi All

The Club is holding an Open Day as part of Bowls England’s “Big Weekend”.

This is a nationwide event  over the bank holiday weekend to attract new bowlers to the sport.

Numbers at the Club will be limited to 30 at any one point in time, which would be inline with former events.

I am asking for volunteers to meet, greet, explain the game etc, hand out forms, cups of tea etc. All within a Covid safe environment eg sitting down socially distanced or 2m apart etc.

If you can help for part or all of the event can you please let Malcolm or myself know via email etc at

email hidden; JavaScript is required  or email hidden; JavaScript is required

There will also be a notice on the General Board in the Pavilion.

There are a few A5 posters in the pavilion advertising the event, larger posters have been put on notice boards in Hedge End, Botley and West End. If you know of a place that would be suitable for a poster please feel free to take one and arrange for it’s display.

Match Results Tues 4th May

Yippee: In the Mens Combi 3.  Hedge End A Team got off to a flying start picking up five points in their first match of the season against Winchester City (away). They won 2 rinks to 1 and scored 62 points against 49.  Unfortunately our the mens Combi Triples league team suffered an away loss at the hands of Old Netley. It was obviously a close match as they managed to win on 1 rink and the overall points were a close 49 to 54. Bad luck chaps. I will shortly be adding links for you to view all our results directly from the S & D website. Keep your eyes peeled on the news messages.

Monday Triples

The Monday Triples, Fixture List, Teams and Rules are now available.

They can be found by going to the side menu bar and clicking Monday Triples under Members Only.

Coaching

At the request of the Hedge End Town Council, HEBC recently entertained a group of young people from the Hedge End Youth Organisation. The club supplied 3 of their coaches who spent an evening introducing these youths to the game of bowls. Despite the weather trying to dampen their spirts a good time was shared by all. Whilst there was a wide gap in abilities they all seemed to equally enjoy themselves and who knows, may well take up the sport at a later date. Thanks to Vic A, Vic B and Eddie.

Club Competitions

The draw has been completed and the competitions have now started. Check your matches by looking in Members Only/Competitions and click on each event.
